5 Memories Of My Hike In Yunnan

We were bussed to Shenzhen Airport, where I truly got to see the beauty that is the Shenzhen Airport terminal. Some of my trypophobic friends had trouble getting through the terminal, but I found it stunning.

The first hurdle at Shenzhen Airport happened during the security check that we had to undergo before we were allowed into the terminal. I was pulled aside as they alleged that I had a canister in my suitcase (which they couldn’t find), but I was let into the terminal soon enough.

I was excited to have the opportunity to fly the 747, but was wary that it may very well be my last time.

THAI Flight 606
Monday, October 2, 2017
Origin: Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) Gate: C10 Dep: 16:00 (16:10)
Destination: Hong Kong (HKG) Gate: 64 Arr: 19:45
 (20:00)
Duration: 2 hr 45 min (2 hr 50 min)
Aircraft: Boeing 747-400
Seat: 19K (Business Class)

I was glad to be one of the first few people onboard the Thai Airways 747. Looking left, I saw a first class cabin of nine seats in the nose of the 747.

Thai Airways Boeing 747 First Class

The seats looked fine, though I’ve seen better first class seats. My mother didn’t like the colour tones, though they were pretty fitting for a Thai airline, in my opinion. I’d avoid seat 4E, as all of business class walks past that seat during boarding, and there’s so little privacy (the seats aren’t fully enclosed, and the privacy partition doesn’t extend very far at all seats) – the seat basically faces the door.

After visiting the East lounge, I thought my work would be bereft had I not rounded up my lounge visit by visiting the adjacent Concourse C West lounge. I went over to the other side of the hallway from the Concourse C East lounge, where the lounge was located.

After a pleasant visit at the EVA Air Lounge Bangkok, it was time to head closer towards the gate to head towards our gate at Concourse C. Concourse C also has a couple of Thai Airways lounges, so I quickly made my way over so I’d have ample time to check them out and still be able to board first.

While I knew there were two Royal Silk lounges, I wasn’t expecting them to be right across each other, which was interesting.

The main destination of my lounge hop was EVA Air’s lounge near Concourse F, which I was excited to check out. EVA Air had just recently refurbished their lounge at Bangkok Airport, and I’d heard good things about it. The lounge is located at Concourse F, one floor below the general departures area.

If this were a competition for Bangkok’s best lounge, EVA Air’s lounge would be by far the most try-hard out of all of them. The lounge’s exterior featured a wooden sliding door, with silver finishes (including a silver logo, as well as the word “lounge” being displayed with silver finishes too).

After a nice drink at the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge, it was off to the EVA Air Lounge. On the way, however, I wanted to check out the Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge at Concourse E.

The entrance of the Royal Silk lounge is across the Royal Orchid lounge, which I didn’t realise I could access (I was under the impression that it was a first class lounge, though Thai Airways’ first class lounges are called “Royal First lounges”). I didn’t end up visiting the lounge, though it seems to be the best of all the Thai Airways business class lounges, so that’s a bummer. Thai Airways’ lounge entrances are rather dated and unimpressive, in my opinion.

I was admitted into the lounge and given another receipt-like WiFi code. The entrance to the lounge is standard for all of Thai Airways’ smaller lounges, consisting of drab carpets, a marble desk, and some garnishing orchids. In addition, there was a “no boarding announcement” sign (which I can appreciate due to the number of Thai Airways flights departing during peak rush hour), as well as the WiFi name.

One of my destinations at Bangkok Airport was checking out the Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge, as I knew that it had been recently renovated. This was a short walk through the terminal, where I eventually found signage towards the Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge.

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge is located near gate D7, in Concourse D of the airport. The exterior of the lounge is in line with most of Singapore Airlines’ renovated lounges, including the one at Hong Kong Airport.

I was so excited to be staying at the Park Hyatt Bangkok. The Park Hyatt Bangkok was originally slated to open in 2014, though their opening was pushed back a couple of years, so they only officially opened in mid-May 2017. I was able to see a couple of photos of the hotel when it first opened, which only added to my excitement of staying at the hotel.

After our Thai Airways flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok, we had arranged our own private transport to the Park Hyatt. The Park Hyatt is located above Central Embassy, one of the newest malls in Bangkok. The mall is big, beautiful and contains everything you would possibly want (from a plethora of shops to many great Thai restaurant options), though everything is quite expensive as well. Nonetheless, the hotel looks beautiful from the outside.
